If you’re craving something a little different, with a strong sense of tradition and flavor, this is the place to be.

The first thing that stands out when stepping into Street Injera Authentic East African Cuisine is the warm, inviting atmosphere. The space is both casual and cozy, with a modern twist on traditional Ethiopian decor. The staff is friendly and welcoming, offering helpful recommendations if you’re unfamiliar with the menu. Whether you’re a long-time lover of East African cuisine or a first-timer, you’ll feel right at home.

One of the standout features of this restaurant is its authentic approach to Ethiopian and East African cooking. The menu is centered around the beloved injera, a sourdough flatbread that acts as both a plate and utensil in many East African meals. At Street Injera, the injera is made fresh daily, providing the perfect base for a variety of flavorful stews, lentils, and meats. Each dish is packed with spices, herbs, and flavors that are both unique and comforting.

For those new to this style of eating, injera is served with a variety of toppings that range from spicy beef dishes to savory vegetable stews. The vegetarian options are plentiful and delicious, with dishes like the Atayef - a combination of mixed lentils, cabbage, and carrots - offering a satisfying, flavorful experience. The meat options, such as the Doro Wat, a rich chicken stew cooked in berbere spice, are perfect for those seeking bold, spicy flavors.

Something that really sets Street Injera apart from other eateries in the area is the attention to authenticity in every dish. The owners, who have deep roots in East Africa, ensure that each meal is made using traditional recipes and ingredients. For example, the restaurant's special blend of spices comes straight from Ethiopia, offering an experience that can’t be easily replicated elsewhere in Nashville. The chefs take the time to perfect each dish, making sure it stays true to its East African roots.

Street Injera’s menu features a variety of dishes that cater to a wide range of tastes. The restaurant offers combination platters, where you can try multiple dishes at once, perfect for those who want to experience a bit of everything. You might find yourself savoring the flavors of Shiro, a spiced chickpea stew, alongside the rich and hearty Kik Alicha, a mildly spiced yellow split pea dish. Every bite is a journey into the heart of East African cuisine, offering a balance of heat, earthiness, and freshness.

A quick look at reviews shows that the restaurant consistently earns high marks for both food quality and service. Many diners comment on how it feels like they’re getting an authentic taste of East Africa, thanks to the restaurant’s focus on traditional cooking methods and ingredients. • Decided to stop and try this place for dinner while traveling. Be advised that it is takeout only, and ordering ahead is recommended. The food was absolutely amazing. I got a Combo #6 to be able to try a sampling of meat and veggie dishes. The red lentils, cabbage/carrots/potatoes, and chicken and beef spicy stir fries were all exceptional. I would highly recommend one of the sambusas also. The portions are generous, the food is fresh, and the owner walked it out to me and spoke to me briefly. She is hoping to build up enough business to open a sit down space. Given this overall experience, I will keep ordering from here for now, and look forward to the next phase soon.

  • Note: this is a grab-and-go place! We didn’t realize until we were there. But the lovely owner was so welcoming — she went out of her way to seat us anyway and ensure we had a wonderful experience, serving us a delicious meal and checking on us to make sure everything was great. She is so hardworking and kind. Please support this up and coming homestyle eatery!

  • My husband and I stopped by the food hub there were 6 restaurant options and we chose this place. We are primarily vegan in our choices and we love Ethiopian food so this was an easy choice. Let me say we are just passing through coming from Ohio so we had no idea what the food would taste like. We each ordered the 2 item sampler and chose yellow lentil stew, collard greens and mixed vegetables with injera bread and green salad for sides. We also ordered the green lentil sambusas. THIS FOOD IS SO GOOD!!! And it is served in such generous amounts we couldn’t finish our order. I sincerely hope the restaurant is open the day we are traveling home so we can try more items. There is outdoor seating but the area is too near cars and is not very picturesque. We found an area nearby and parked to enjoy the food.

  • Great cuisine. Fresh and delicious and we appreciated the owner’s ad hoc accommodation! Highly recommend this eatery for a homey & flavor rich East African meal. This food hits the spot. And the owner is an extremely kind, personable and loves her craft. PS. This is a take out only business at the moment.

  • I grew up in Nashville and have eaten all around this city, and I can easily say this is now one of my favorite restaurants. The food is fresh and perfectly spiced and the chef truly cares. I rarely eat at a restaurant that inspires me to write a review. Well, it happened! This is not a stand alone restaurant but rather part of a building with multiple kitchens that focus on take out, so I recommend ordering direct from the website for pick up/delivery or calling ahead to schedule a sit down at the lovey outside tables. I appreciate that the chef is building a client base in this way before taking the jump to a full brick and mortar. Makes good sense, and I am happy to support! Seriously y’all, eat here. It’s the best! I’ll be coming as often as I can.

  • AMAZING FOOD! The woman who owns and manages this place goes above and beyond. She's relatively new and trying to build her business up in this kitchen. When you buy the food she takes your order, cooks it, and brings it out to you. She does it all! When she brought out the food she was extremely personable and referred to her food as "her baby". Any establishment with that level of authenticity and passion proves the food will be exceptional. HELP SUPPORT this woman and her small business. You wont regret it!

  • Amazing ethiopian food. Made fresh, clean and vegan. Highly recommended! The owner was very kind! Great service. She went above and beyond and even offered us to eat there if more convenient. You can taste her kindness in the food! No dine in. Only take out.

  • The food here is absolutely delicious! The owner is so kind and generous with the portions. I highly recommend the Combo #6 platter, it lets you sample a little bit of everything. Also get the samosas! Every dish was packed with flavor and perfectly seasoned.
